What I Learnt from an Old UMPC today.
Preview of upcoming Lenovo ThinkPad x200 Tablet PC
Warner shares a video preview of the upcoming Lenovo ThinkPad x200 Tablet PC. Great close-up shots and fair compare & contrast with the current ThinkPad x61 Tablet PC.
- 12.1" Widescreen display: 1280 x 800 with multiple options for touch & EM combos
- CPU options including Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Processor SU9300 (1.2GHz, 3MB L2 cache, 800MHz bus) and Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Processor SL9400 (1.86GHz, 6MB L2 cache, 1066MHz bus)
- Increased battery life
- Slightly thinner & shorter chassis
As an x61 Tablet PC user and someone who is right handed, I'm pleased to see even little features, such as the pen storage area located on the right side.
Of course, the increased battery life will be great for everyone. You can potentially configure a system to optimize for up to 15 hour battery life, depending on the processor and battery cell combination.
Look for additional information from Lenovo on September 23, 2008.

OQO CEO Resigns, Might Not Mean Good News For the UMPC Maker
Dennis Moore of OQO has just resigned as their CEO. It's rarely good news when your CEO resigns and says he found a better opportunity elsewhere, but we're hoping the startup continues to refine their UMPC into something everyone can get behind. [Dennis Moore Blog via Gotta Be Mobile]

Sucker Punch's Nate Fox finds PSP "exciting"
"PSP is pretty exciting," said Fox. "I spend a lot of time on the bus, so it'd be nice to contribute to gamers around the world who also play games on the bus."
Fox didn't say any more apart from that, but he did also mention in a separate interview that Sucker Punch would "would love to get back to Sly". Add the two together, mix in some imaginative speculation, and voila! Although earlier rumors about a new Sly Cooper game have since been dispelled, there may yet be a chance for a Sly Cooper PSP title.
Of course, the operative word here is "speculation". Still, Fox's comments about the PS3 not having the Sly franchise's target demographic yet coupled with his love for the PSP does lead one to thinking.

Eee PC 1000H Price Drops Even Lower; $450 on Amazon, $360 on MWave
In case Asus' $100 price drop in July just wasn't enough to make up your mind on whether to spring for a new Eee PC 1000H, the mini-marvel's gotten even cheaper now. Amazon is selling an 80GB, XP-equipped 1000H for just $450. Mwave also has several in stock for either $450 (while supplies last) or, if you're willing to go for an open box product, an almost criminal $359. [Amazon and mwave via Liliputing]

The Samsung Netbook
Inspiron Mini 9 3G and SSD info

Acer Aspire One With Integrated 3G
According to BGR, The 8.9" Aspire One netbook is expected to be available with integrated 3G starting this November in Taiwan. The upgrade will cost an additional $95 over the standard model, but there is no word on when we might see a similar bundle arriving in the States. However, integrated 3G was always part of the plan, so with any luck we won't have to wait too long. On a related note, jKOnTheRun spotted a Japanese newspaper flyer that appears to offer a similar bundle with the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and the HP 2133 along with a $370 subsidy when users sign up for a two year 3G plan with Emobile. Project Inkwell 'Spark' Aiming for OLPC's Head With Its Handheld Form Factor
Project Inkwell's Spark is not only a potential OLPC competitor because of it's handheld, UMPC form factor and K-12 educational focus, but also because it doesn't look like it's made exclusively for the preschool user base. The Spark was developed in conjunction with the design firm Ideo, and though details are vague, the visuals are somewhat revealing. The Spark looks roughly the size of a PSP, with a +/- rocker switch and scroll wheel adorning the left and right sides of the handheld.
There's no mention of touchscreen functionality, but the screen looks to be lined with buttons and comes with a case housing a foldout keyboard, plus room for a mouse and spare battery. Less visible features would include bluetooth and wi-fi. It's still too early to talk release or pricing details, but this seems like a concept that's very feasible to produce.
